A proud Kiwi girl who grew up playing netball in New Zealand since she was eight years old, Ngawai Eyles, moved to Canberra at the end of 2017 and played for the GWS Canberra Giants Netball Team in the 2018 Australian Netball League. She always wanted to give rugby a crack and felt as though she had achieved all that she could in her netball career so made a code switch to Rugby 7s at the end of 2018 playing in the Australian AON’s 7s Series. Eyles thoroughly enjoyed the experience and now, five months later, she’s here giving 15s a shot in the Super W competition and could not be happier about all the new challenges.
Eyles represented New Zealand in touch football in 2013 and 2014 and is now playing for the ACT Raiders Woman’s Touch Football team for the 2019 season. Her touch football back ground has made the transition to rugby a little easier in terms of attacking but she feels as though she still has a long way to go and a lot to learn. Eyles is looking forward to her first 15s season and playing for the Brumbies in the 2019 Super W competition.
