Although Lanieta Yabaki comes from a nation that loves their rugby and a family that loved rugby, she only experienced her first game of rugby union through the ACT Schoolgirls’ program in 2010 and 2011. Here Yabaki won an award for being the best forward, but after joining the Uni-North Owls Women’s team she quickly realised she was more of a back! Yabaki first joined the Owls Women’s team in 2014 and had her first experience of winning Minor and Major Premiership with her team.
In 2014 she also made my debut in a Brumbies jersey in a trial Women’s 15s match, then continued to represent Brumbies in the National Sevens Championships and the National 15s Championship in 2015.It was here that Yabaki found her position in playing centre and on the wing. Although she underwent an ACL knee reconstruction in 2015, in 2016 Yabaki recovered fully and continued to play for the Uni-North Owls team and to pull on the Brumbies Jersey for a few representative matches. She had a break from rugby in 2017 and 2018 to start a family. This year Yabaki was hoping to make my come back but unfortunately didn’t get named in the original Brumbies Super W squad but, after much perseverance, hard work and dedication she finally got the call to join the Brumbies Super W squad!
