Hailing from Hamilton in New Zealand, Irene swapped her Waikato, and Auckland Waitakere netball shoes to return to her rugby roots, Captaining North Harbour’s first Women 7s team in 2013. She has several Canterbury caps, and 18 Samoan 7’s international caps before making her Brumbies & Raiders Women debut in 2016. Bred from a family of NZ NFL representatives, Irene is not one to shy away from contact and is one of most formidable defensive players in the Brumbies lineup. After competing in the Brisbane 10’s with one the highest pilfer records of the tournament, she took some time off to have her first child in September 2018 only to return two months later ready to rip into pre-season. Her preferred playing position is number 8, but, is known to make an appearance in the midfield due to her vision and understanding of the game.
As a senior player she offers so much on and off field, often co-coaching girls and women’s rugby in the ACT. Her passion is to change the face of women’s rugby, by playing or coaching competitive, new and innovative footy by helping grow grassroots & contributing to the local fabric of Brumbies Rugby.
