Emma Tonegato was one of Australia’s leading try scorers at the 2016 Olympic Games at Rio, and undoubtedly was a crucial member in securing the first ever Olympic Gold for Rugby Sevens.
Tonegato debuted for the Aussie Sevens side in the opening leg of the 2013-14 HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai in November 2013. Her try scoring brilliance lead to her being later named player of the Tournament for the Atlanta leg of the Sevens World Series in April 2016 and a month later she was named in the 2015-16 World Rugby dream team.
The 2017/2018 season saw Tonegato don the gold jersey for every leg of the HSBC Women’s Sevens World Series and scoring 26 tries across the season, adding to her already impressive 440 career points. A season stand out and constant high performer, saw Tonegato gain selection in the 2018 Commonwealth Games squad, where yet again tries were raining in, guiding the Aussies to their silver medal finish.
Tonegato will look to add to her tally of points again in the upcoming World Series and into the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
