In 2017 Emily McDonald played her first game of union with her local club Orange Emus. She was never allowed to play contact sport as a youngster, on advice of her parents, but even as a youngster she grew up around rugby. McDonald’s next-door neighbour played for the Wallabies and his son plays for Eastern Suburbs in Shute shield. In 2018 McDonald played a full season of 10’s with Emus and absolutely loved it, whilst in September she made her debut for the NSW Country Eagles and played two games of 15’s against Sydney Rays. In December Emily was selected for her local representative side, the Central West Bulls, to tour New Zealand. Before then McDonald participated consistently in touch football, league tag, rugby league and super touch over the past eighteen months, while starting her trade in Electrical Distribution with Essential Energy.
