They face an Argentina side eager to bounce back after a disappointing second-half performance, out to recapture the form that saw them defeat Scotland in the July series.
It marks the first time Cheika will come up against his old side since his departure in 2019.
The round will open with the Springboks hosting the All Blacks in Johannesburg, with Ian Foster under serious pressure after last week's defeat.

The Wallabies will next play Argentina in San Juan on August 14
It will be the second round of the Rugby Championship, with the Wallabies taking the opening game 41-26 in Mendoza.
Dave Rennie's men will then face South Africa in Adelaide and Sydney before taking on the All Blacks in Melbourne and Auckland
The Wallabies v Argentina series will be shown only on Stan Sport.
The second test will be ad-free, live and on demand, with extended coverage on Stan Sport from 4:45 am AEST.
This will also be the case for the second Test, with the games against South Africa and the All Blacks simulcast on the Nine Network.
The Wallabies' game against Argentina is not on free-to-air TV as they are not covered under anti-siphoning laws, with only home games and the Bledisloe covered by the Nine Network.
South Africa's blockbuster match against the All Blacks will be shown on Stan Sport.

The second Test between the Wallabies and Argentina will kick off at 5:10 am AEST at the Estadio Bicentenario on Sunday August 14

The Wallabies will head to Adelaide for the first time since 2004 as they face South Africa at the Adelaide Oval on August 27
This will be followed by a historic match at the Sydney Football Stadium, the first International fixture at the new venue on September 3
The Australian leg of the tournament will conclude with a rare mid-weel Test as the Wallabies and All Blacks travel to Melbourne on September 15
