The Reds host the Chiefs in the first Super Rugby match in Townsville since 2006.

The Chiefs have confirmed their replacement for Damian McKenzie ahead of their clash with the Rebels at Leichhardt Oval.

McKenzie was suspended for the rest of the tournament after he was sensationally red-carded during their 40-34 loss to the Reds.

Bryn Gatland comes back into the side to replace him, with Luke Jacobson taking over the captaincy.

Josh Lord slots into lock whilst Saminsoni Taukei'aho has been elevated to the starting side.

Brad Weber comes off the bench, allowing Xavier Roe to start alongside Quinn Tupaea and Shaun Stevenson.

Marika Koroibete has broken his 2021 Try drought

The Rebels will welcome Richard Hardwick back to the starting side as they search for their first win of Super Rugby Trans-Tasman.

His inclusion from the bench shifts vice-captain Michael Wells to blindside and Rob Leota to Lock.

"He’s been outstanding this year around the breakdown, both on attack and defence, and brings real clarity around what we need, and carries great strength ensuring we get the breakdown right," interim coach Kevin Foote said on Hardwick.

Matt To'omua (head) will play after a nasty cut, joining Stacey Ili in the centres, with Campbell Magnay still a couple weeks away.

Rhys Van Nek also makes his return from a lower body injury suffered in Round Two of Super Rugby AU.

He is joined on the bench by Michael Icely and halfback James Tuttle.
