Melbourne Rebels host the Reds in Round Seven of Harvey Norman Super Rugby AU at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

Reds fullback Bryce Hegarty is looking to celebrate his 100th Super Rugby game with a win as they face the Brumbies at Suncorp Stadium.

Having spent stints at the Rebels and Waratahs, Hegarty has flourished in his home state since arriving in 2019 as part of a swap deal with Karmichael Hunt.

“It’s pretty exciting,” he said.

“When I first started I took it as it comes and I really enjoyed my time in Melbourne and have some good mates there and similarly at the Tahs.

“But it’s been great to come back to my home state where I grew up… it’s amazing and to play my 100th Super Rugby game for Queensland is pretty special.”

His influence and presence in the squad is evident, with the 28-year-old retaining the fullback jersey despite the presence of Wallaby Filipo Daugunu on the bench.

Whilst he may float between starting and finishing for the club, Hegarty's commitment and attitude regardless of his position was something that stood out to coach Brad Thorn.

“He’s been a senior player in this team. He’s been a team leader for the last couple of years,” he said on Thursday.

“The past two years being a finisher, obviously a lot of guys would like to start the game. It’s a real show of character for Bryce and he’s been all for the team and I’m really pleased for him.

"It’s a really big achievement in Super Rugby and hopefully, we can get a good result for him."

Hegarty's 100th game is a big one for the Reds, with a win securing a home final on May 8.

With their nine-game winning streak at Suncorp Stadium on the line, Hegarty was looking to do whatever it took to celebrate his milestone game with a victory.

“It’s one of those games that you look forward to playing,” he added.

“The Brumbies and the Reds have developed a pretty cool rivalry so it’s a special game for both teams.

“We know what’s on the line for us so we want to perform as best we can.

“For me, it’s a special game and I want to really look fondly back on and make sure I can do everything possible to perform my best and take my chances."

It’s going to be a top of the table clash when the Reds take on the Brumbies at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night, kicking off at 7.45pm AEDT, catch all the action LIVE on Stan Sports and simulcast on 9Gem,click here to purchase tickets.
