The Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) has today announced the appointment of Anglican Church Grammar School 1st XV head coach, Queensland Reds U18s coach and Brothers Premier Grade assistant coach Dale Roberson as the new Reds Academy coach.

He will partner Paul Carozza at the Reds Academy who continues his 20 years of experience in talent identification and management at Ballymore.

During his nine years of Rugby coaching experience, Roberson has placed a strong emphasis on the pathway development of young footballers which has been a key focus for the QRU with 90% of the current St.George Queensland Reds squad having come through the Queensland pathway.

Queensland Reds GM - Professional Rugby Sam Cordingley said: "The Queensland Reds Academy continues to have a strong history of developing Super Rugby and Wallabies players.

"We are also pleased that a number of previous Reds Academy coaches have gone onto professional coaching roles within Australia.”

Head of Reds Academy Paul Carozza said: “The connection between our Academy and the Reds program is a big part of the way we do things here.

“This connection extends to our clubs and schools so it was important that we approached the selection process like we would in appointing a Super Rugby coach.

"Dale has made a significant contribution to Queensland and national developing programs. He is a quality person and was clearly the best person for the job.”

Reds Academy coach Dale Roberson said: “I am really excited to work with the next generation of talented players that the Queensland Rugby community continues to produce.

"Having been involved with the Queensland U18s program for a couple of years now, I have been impressed with the standard of players that have been developed through the quality programs provided at school and club level across the state.

"I look forward to assisting the senior and junior Academy players to achieve their goals and hopefully wear the Queensland Reds jersey in the future."

For the past two years, Roberson has held down three separate Rugby coaching roles in Queensland including the Queensland Reds U18s attack and backs coach, Brothers Premier Grade assistant coach in the Hospital Cup and Churchie 1st XV head coach.

He also previously head coached the National Development and Australian Youth Girls 7s team, was assistant coach of the Australian Women’s 7s team, as well as the assistant coach for Southern Districts in Sydney’s Shute Shield 1st Grade competition for eight seasons.

In addition, Roberson worked as the team analyst for the Australian U20s men’s team at the Junior World Cup in Italy in 2015, plus as a Pathway Manager and also Game Development Manager for Rugby 7s programs with Rugby Australia.

Roberson will officially commence his new role at Ballymore in early March.
