Wallabies coach Dave Rennie has revealed his frustration following a series of ‘what ifs’ in his debut season in charge last year.

Rennie, speaking at a coaching clinic in regional New South Wales, revealed he and his coaching group have already begun planning ahead of the 2021 season with the Wallabies mentor developing the team’s ‘game model’ over the last few weeks.

“We were frustrated because we couldn’t put the Argentineans away but to be honest, that’s where we are at. We have a lot of work to do but good men, great attitude, keen to learn, keen to work hard so we have build on that.

“We have an understanding of where we are at. We did a lot of work over the last few weeks to get a plan around our game model and detail around that. We have been into a lot of clubs and given feedback on players, so now we want to chip in and help out,” Rennie said.

The Wallabies coach was alongside his scrum coach Petrus du Plessis and attack coach Scott Wisemantel for a free clinic in northern New South Wales, with more than 100 coaches signing up to learn from the trio.

“I did a session on culture just then, Petrus is running a scrum session, Scott Wisemantel is doing an attack session after that. We’re just here chipping in and doing what we can.

“Grassroots rugby is very important to me. I played a lot of footy there and coached a lot of club level and made a lot of mistakes. So just a chance to come in and share, and to learn as well.

“From a coaching perspective, the more of these that happen, the more opportunity to learn and learn from each other. There will be a lot of really smart coaches in this 100, and chance to have a beer later on and share some ideas,” Rennie said.

The Wallabies Test schedule for 2021 is yet to be confirmed with SANZAAR yesterday revealing that planning is well underway for inbound July Series and The Rugby Championship.
