Australia headed to Dunedin after being embarrassed in Sydney and the Wallabies did everything they could to all but turn that series opener on its head across the ditch.
Three early tries had Australia out to an early lead before New Zealand began to peg them back.
One final restart proved to be the deciding moment in the thriller, which instantly became a Test classic.
It was an emotional defeat for the Wallabies and few felt it more than Kurtley Beale, who said it "cut the heart" in the hours after the clash.
