Wallabies abroad: Gill scores, Bordeaux survive thriller

Bordeaux survived an almighty scare from battling Grenoble, winning 24-22 in the Top 14, in a good weekend for Aussies playing overseas.

Adam Ashley-Cooper played out the game on the right wing, while Luke Jones played the full 80 minutes in the second row.

Peter Kimlin featured at blindside for Grenoble, playing the entire match as his side’s comeback fell just short.

Mitchell played his first match since the Wallabies’ Test against South Africa in September, making it unscathed through the 80 minutes, while James O’Connor lined up on the opposite wing.

Bayonne pulled off an incredible upset against Sitaleki Timani’s Clermont, claiming just their second win of the season over the ladder leaders.

Ben Mowen played at blindside flanker for Pau in a 26-17 win over Racing 92, just their fourth win of the season.

Tomane and halfback Nic White played out the full match againt Lyo, while Mike Harris played out the 80 minutes for Lyon after starting at flyhalf.

Outside back Jesse Mogg played the final 19 minutes of the match, coming off the bench for Montpellier.

Aussie Zack Holmes was the match winner for La Rochelle against Toulouse, with his two late penalties sending them to a 25-19 win.

Anglo-Welsh Cup

Salesi Ma’afu played a half in a Gloucester loss to Northampton, after starting at tighthead prop in the match.

Peter Betham was on the wing for Leicester against Newport Gwent, as the Tiger romped to a 42-3 victory over the Dragons.
