Alby Mathewson is leaving the Force, set to link up with a New Zealand provincial side in the off-season.

Mathewson will play for Canterbury in New Zealand’s provincial competition, called in as injury cover for Mitchell Drummond.

The 30-year-old’s Super Rugby career has spanned three clubs – the Hurricanes, Blues and Force – and 133 Super Rugby caps since 2007.

The four-capped All Black played 11 matches for the Force this season, before his latest move.

Ian Prior was the other main halfback option for the WA franchise this season, also dabbling in the main playmaking spot after an injury to Jono Lance.

Mathewson's departure comes after confirmation that Kyle Godwin and Chris Alcock would be leaving the Force to join the Brumbies.
