Around 300 girls across 28 teams from Under 14s, 16s and 18s will take part in the day, with 19 matches in total. The success of the Australian Women’s Sevens at the recent Rio Olympics Games has clearly inspired many a youngster who has the dream of representing their country in rugby.
None more so than NSW Waratahs Head Coach, Daryl Gibson’s Under 10s and 12s girls 7s teams who, after training for several months, were keen to find some competition for an actual match.
Four weeks ago a call out was made to find teams for the girls to compete against. The result was a huge success with several teams registering their interest to be part of the action through the NSW rugby 7s Discovery Days.
As a result, Daryl’s five girls teams will go head to head as part of the Sydney Junior Rugby girls 7s day this Saturday at Concord.
For many of the girls it will be the first time they have ever participated in a rugby competition, for others it is a huge opportunity for them to hone their skills in a competitive format. The competition Grand Finals will take place following the Rams’ NRC match – see timings below.
