Taqele Naiyaravoro cited for Barrett tackle

Taqele Naiyaravoro sent to the sin bin after a dangerous tackle in the air on Beauden Barrett

Waratahs winger Taqele Naiyaravoro has been cited for tackling Beauden Barrett in the air in his side's loss to the Hurricanes.

The mammoth winger was yellow-carded by referee Chris Pollock at the time of the tackle, in the 57th minute on Saturday, but the offence was deemed to meet the red card threshold.

Taqele Naiyaravoro was yellow-carded in the loss to the Hurricanes. Photo: Getty ImagesIn a release, SANZAAR Naiyaravoro was found to have "contravened Law 10.4 (i) Tackling, tapping, pushing or pulling an Opponent jumping for the ball in a lineout or in open play".

The referee for the match, Chris Pollock, awarded a yellow card for the incident which occurred in the 57th minute.

SANZAAR duty judicial officer Robert Stelzner SC will be hearing Naiyaravoro's situation.

The Waratahs travel to Auckland next week to face the Blues for any chance of making the finals.
