Japanese Test star Ayumu Goromaru won't play any more Super Rugby in 2016, ruled out for three months with a shoulder injury.

Goromaru will undergo surgery next week after suffering a separation in his AC joint, ruling him out for 12 weeks, including the Reds' final three Super Rugby matches.

The Reds fullback was taken off the field in the 57th minute after attempting to stop a Sunwolves try.

His injury also stops him from featuring in Japan's June Tests.

“I’m disappointed I can’t play out the rest of the season with my Reds teammates and I’m obviously disappointed to be missing out on the June Test series with Japan," he said.

“I’ve had a fantastic time in Australia and now I just want to work hard on my recovery. I’m looking forward to what challenges are ahead.”

With reports that Goromaru is set to sign a deal with Top 14 club Toulon for next season, Saturday's clash against the Sunwolves may have been his final outing for the Reds.
