Men's Sevens captain Ed Jenkins has been chosen to represent the Australian Commonwealth Games team at a Royal Lunch in Glasgow.

Alongside superstar athlete Sally Pearson, Jenkins dined with Her Majesty the Queen at the athletes village dining hall on Thursday afternoon.

Jenkins and Pearson were selected from over 400 Australian athletes, with the pair chosen owing to their leadership qualities.

Sydneysider Jenkins said: "I had to pinch myself. It was a huge honour to be told I would have this honour bestowed upon me."

Australian chef de mission Steve Moneghetti said: "Petria Thomas (Athlete liason) called for the nominations. I value her contribution because it's a great honour and we wanted to make sure the process was thought out.

"We agreed those two were terrific representatives, a male and a female. And they are great representatives."

The Australian Men's Sevens team get their campaign tomorrow night when they take on Sri Lanka at around 7.50pm (AEST). All of Australia's games at the Commonwealth Games will be broadcast on Network Ten.
