The Wallabies have had a mixed recent history against Scotland, after ending a prolific winning streak.
After winning 16 straight matches between 1982 and 2009, Australia lost two in a row against Scotland, before rebounding to win in 2013 at Murrayfield.
Here’s how their last three match-ups have played out.
November 23, 2013 - Australia 21- Scotland 15, Murrayfield
The Wallabies had eight changes in that Test from their previous outing against Ireland but overcame the vastly different side in a tight match. Playing at Murrayfield, the Wallabies clinched the win 21-15. It was Israel Folau who proved the difference for Australia that night, in a man of the match performance. He scored a try off the hands of Quade Cooper 27 minutes in and a five-pointer to Christian Leali’ifano gave the Wallabies the best start to the second half.
June 5, 2012 - Scotland 9 - Australia 6, Hunter Stadium, Newcastle
This is a match that Wallabies captain Stephen Moore remembers clearly. Speaking on Tuesday ahead of his 100th Test, Moore recalled the extraordinary conditions at Newcastle, that were more suited to the visitors. “I opened the curtains during the day and I think I saw one of the bins rolling down the middle of the street and I thought, ‘Oh yeah, this is going to be good’,” he said.
“(They were some) of the toughest conditions I’ve played in my whole career. It was just one of those nights - the wind was howling, it was raining sideways and they really played well in those conditions.” Current vice-captain, Michael Hooper, made his Wallabies debut that day replacing Dave Dennis in the 65th minute. It was halfback Greig Laidlaw who kicked the winning penalty in the 84th minute and the Scottish captain has been firing this tournament, the competition’s leading points-scorer through the pool stages.
November 21, 2009 - Scotland 9 - Australia 8, Murrayfield
Scotland snatched the narrowest of wins at Murrayfield in a low-scoring affair. Three-all at half-time, a Scottish penalty and drop goal put them in the box seat for a victory. The Wallabies scored the only try of the game, through Ryan Cross after 80 minutes but Matt Giteau missed the conversion, leaving the scores at 9-8. That win ended a 27-year losing streak for the Scottish against Australia.
