Key Match Ups

Will Genia v Greig Laidlaw

Greig Laidlaw is Scotland’s captain, goal kicker and a very in-form halfback. His performances have been vital for thw Scots so far and that should prove the case again. His battle with Bernard Foley in the goal kicking ranks could prove pivotal but in general play it will be an enthralling battle against the number nines. Genia has been solid for the Wallabies and his combination with Foley continues to grow each game.

Scott Sio v WP Nel

Scott Sio has been one of the in-form props of the Rugby World Cup competition and this will be another challenge for the 23-year-old. The Wallabies scrum stood up under pressure against Wales and it was the weapon that helped knock England out of the World Cup. Scotland will be trying to limit the momentum the Wallabies can gain in attack so the scrum will be an important battleground.

Ben McCalman v David Denton

Australia will miss David Pocock on Sunday, that’s no revelation, but McCalman brings a different element to the side. He has been in superb form when he has played for the Wallabies and coach MIchael Cheika praised the back rower for covering the jobs of one-and-a-half men in a grinding effort against Wales. With Michael Hooper and Scott Fardy alongside him in the back row, this combination should still be a crucial one for Australia.

Adam Ashley-Cooper v Tommy Seymour

Scotland winger Tommy Seymour has scored a try in each of his past four Test matches nad his finishing skills will be a key area for the Wallabies to shut down. Adam Ashley-Cooper hasn’t scored a try in this World Cup, though his defensive efforts created the turning point in Australia’s final pool match.
