The Qantas Wallabies have fallen short in their bid to claim an historic win in Pretoria this morning against the Springboks, going down by 23-points.

An injury depleted Qantas Wallabies side had to finish the final eight minutes of the Test with just 14-men on the field, and with uncontested scrums as the injury toll meant all of their substitutions had been used and hooker Tatafu Polota Nau could not be replaced.

The Springboks entered the second half up by 11-points and took just 14 minutes to add a third try to their tally when Francois Louw crossed in the 54th minute, however Ruan Pineear failed to add the extras and the Qantas Wallabies found themselves down 19-3.

Springboks winger, Bryan Habana secured his second try of the Test and his team’s fourth in the 61st minute after taking a quick throw on half way before streaking away from the defence.

Habana’s try saw the Springboks gain a four-try bonus point and when Pineaar added the extras to extend the Springboks lead to 23-points the Qantas Wallabies had it all ahead of them.

Five minutes later the Qantas Wallabies crossed for their first try and Mike Harris’ maiden Test try, however Harris couldn’t convert his good work and with less than 15 minutes left on the clock the Qantas Wallabies trailed by 18-points.

Things got worse for the Qantas Wallabies with just eight minutes to go when Hooker Tatafu Polota Nau was forced from the field with injury and was unable to be replaced by Saia Fainga’a after the Australians had used all of their allocated substitution.

The Qantas Wallabies played out the remainder of the match with just 14-men and uncontested scrums trying gallantly to keep the Springboks out.

Despite some spirited defence from the Australians the Springboks had one last try left in them in the final minute when Habana crossed for his hat-trick to extend the lead to 31-8.

The Qantas Wallabies finished the Test with Berrick Barnes (chest injury), Adam Ashley-Cooper (head-knock), Digby Ioane (knee concern), Radike Samo (shoulder injury) and Tatafu Polota Nau (shoulder concern) all on the bench.
