Qantas Wallabies flanker Michael Hooper is on course to continue his golden season as he heads the Castrol EDGE Strongest Performer of the Series Award after the first two rounds.

Hooper, who is just 21-years-old, has already claimed the Australian Super Rugby Player of the Year award and HSBC Waratahs Players’ Player of the Year title.

And now he leads the race to win the Castrol EDGE Strongest Performer of the Series Award.

Each week during the 2013 Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship, Fairfax’s panel of leading Rugby writers, who includes some of Australia’s top Rugby scribes such as Paul Cully, Georgina Robinson and Spiro Zavos, vote for the best-performing Qantas Wallabies.

Points are allocated on a three, two, one basis by each panelist, with the player with the highest points tally at the end of the tournament being awarded the Castrol EDGE Strongest Performer of the Series trophy.

A running points table will be published in the Sydney Morning Herald and Rugby.com.au on Monday each week during the Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship.

Hooper has cleared out to a comfortable lead over Brumbies backrower/lock Scott Fardy, who has made an impressive start to his Test career. Another Brumbies star in his first year of Test Rugby, Christian Leali’ifano, is just a point behind after two strong performances.

Wallabies tryscorer in Wellington, Israel Folau, is a point further back along with a trio of more experienced Australian backline stars – Will Genia, James O’Connor and the ever-consistent Adam Ashley-Cooper.

The full points table is below.
