What qualification do I need?

 

TO REFEREE U6 OR U7 RUGBY?
 
Due to the game style being tag and not tackle, there is no minimum compulsory requirement at this age group.
 
Often coaches or parents referee U6 and U7 rugby. Attendance at a Coaching Kids Rugby (U6 and U7) course is recommended for anyone coaching or refereeing U6 or U7 rugby. These courses are conducted primarily at clubs on a training night and can be arranged with your local development officer.
 
TO REFEREE U8 TO U12 RUGBY?
 
MINIMUM: SmartRugby qualification is the minimum compulsory requirement for anyone to referee a game of U8 to U12 rugby.
 
REFEREE REGULARLY: Anyone wishing to regularly referee U8 to U12 should attend a Refereeing Kids Rugby (U8 to U12) course. This course incorporates SmartRugby.
 
TO REFEREE JUNIOR RUGBY? (U13 TO U19)
 
MINIMUM: SmartRugby qualification is the minimum compulsory requirement for anyone to referee a game of junior rugby.
 
REFEREE REGULARLY: Anyone wishing to regularly referee junior rugby should obtain Level 1 Referee accreditation. The first step to obtain this is to attend a Foundation course (this course incorporates SmartRugby).
 
TO REFEREE SENIOR RUGBY? (SUBURBAN, COLTS, GRADE, COUNTRY ZONES)
 
MINIMUM: SmartRugby qualification is the minimum compulsory requirement for anyone to referee a game of senior rugby.
 
REFEREE RUGULARLY: Anyone wishing to regularly referee senior rugby should obtain Level 1 Referee accreditation. The first step to obtain this is to attend a Foundation course (this course incorporates SmartRugby).
 
RECOMMENDED: Most referee associations will expect that after obtaining your Level 1 Referee accreditation that you will also go on to gain Level 2 Referee Accreditation if practicable.
 
TO TOUCH JUDGE RUGBY? (ALL LEVELS)
 
Anyone can touch judge rugby without accreditation. However, you must obtain Level 1 Assistant Referee Accreditation if:
·      you wish to report on foul play during a game, or
·      your club wishes to satisfy competition rules that require accredited Assistant Referees.
