2012 National Schools Rugby Sevens Live Results and Ladders
Concept
The attraction of playing the seven-a-side format lies in the fact that schools with limited rugby experience can compete quite successfully against more traditional rugby schools.
The core skills (i.e. catch & pass, evasion, track - tackle etc) in Sevens rugby are of greater significance with the specific rugby based skills (i.e. lineout and scrum) not being as important as in the 15-a-side game.
Overall, Sevens rugby appeals to a variety of schools from traditional rugby schools, to those schools which may have never played the game of Rugby union offering them a chance to take part in an exciting, fast and free flowing game.
Format
With a multitude of demands on school time from other sports and academic pressures, it is imperative to provide opportunities to play rugby which involve minimum disruption to the school program.
With this in mind the format relies on a one day structure for tournaments, with each team that enters being offered at least three games in a pool/round robin format. Schools therefore receive a chance to play against a variety of schools and are kept active playing throughout the whole day.
