Nearly 4,000 players, referees, coaches and managers will help kick off the 2013 Bankwest Junior Rugby season in WA today.

With 3,337 participants already spread across 220 teams, this season is set to one of the most successful RugbyWA Juniors seasons to date.
There are currently 124 teams registered in the Under 6 to Under 10 age categories, with another 96 teams making up the Under 11 to Under 16 age groups.
RugbyWA’s Manager Community Rugby, Andrew Hill, says he is looking forward to building on the 8,000 registered players (junior and senior) Western Australia boasted in 2012.
“Having started junior registration before the end of Term One means there’s opportunity over the next few months to potentially grow that figure,” he said.
“Hopefully clubs will continue to recruit, particularly over the school holidays and off the back of some of our holiday clinics coming up.
“From a players’ perspective, it’ll be great to have them all down at Britannia Oval again and back into playing some rugby; we’re all ready to go, the fields looks fantastic and we’re really looking forward to it.”
Hill encourages any junior who is interested in playing rugby to get in touch with their local club, as registrations will be taken throughout the season.
“The great thing about rugby in Western Australia is that so many new people have the opportunity to experience the game every day through our development programs,” he said.
“There’s always an opportunity for new players to sign up to club rugby and I’d encourage anyone who is thinking about playing to contact their local rugby club and get involved.
While most fixtures will be played at Britannia Oval (central) throughout the year, with matches also hosted at Lake Joondalup in the north, and shared throughout clubs in the south.
