The heart of Australian Rugby is beating strongly with the Sydney Junior Rugby Union competitions kicking off this weekend across the city.
Due to the sheer volume of Junior Rugby players, the Sydney Junior Rugby competition plays on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays around the Greater Sydney Metropolitan area.
In preparation for the season, NSW Community Development staff has been working hard to develop links with local schools that align with local Junior Clubs to boost numbers and expose participants to the enjoyment of Sydney Junior Rugby.
The Sydney Junior Rugby Union governs the U10s to U18s competitions, and has been a breeding ground for wallaby and Waratah players, including Benn Robinson (Dural), Michael Hooper (Manly Roos), and David Dennis (Nepean) who all represented their relative junior clubs in weekend rugby competition over many years.
The next generation of Sydney Junior also begins in the next week with U6s to U9s Minis coordinated by the District Junior Rugby Unions in conjunction with Sydney Junior Rugby Union.
A feature of the Sydney Junior organisation is the significant contribution by parents and volunteers who spend countless hours operating as coaches, managers, ground marshals and as match officials. Tony Fisher, President of Sydney Juniors, wished to thank all the volunteers who are involved in Junior Rugby because without their support and involvement we would not be able to successfully run the Sydney Junior Rugby Union competitions each weekend.
Sydney Juniors Rugby Union Competition Manager, Taleah Newhouse, commented “it is a hectic time of the year for all the volunteers, coaches and administrators alike, managing the draw and getting things prepared for the start of the season”.
Ms Newhouse also added “due to the growth of the competition in the last 12 months we have developed a new website to help govern and manage the competition for all involved”.
Tony Fisher also commented “2013 will be another exciting year for Junior Rugby as playing numbers continue to grow for the game they play in heaven! The competition is conducted over 14 rounds and culminates with Grand Finals at the end of August. In addition, keep an eye out for the NSW Junior State Championships which will be held on the June long weekend.”
