The next generation of Rugby stars are set to be unveiled with the Combined High School U16s Discovery Day held at Mt Druitt on Wednesday 27 March.

NSW Combined High Schools (CHS), in conjunction with the ARU High Performance Unit are conducting a series of Discovery Days and CHS U16 Rugby Union trials to select the CHS U16 Rugby Union Team to contest the NSW Schools U16 Championship for 2013.

Over 100 players have registered from local Western Sydney schools and will be put through a series of skills and drills under the watchful eye of High Performance Coaches and Community Development staff.

This day is one of a series held by the CHS school teachers to allow great access for students around the greater metropolitan area and identified hot spot of Newcastle.

The CHS representative pathway is an important step for young players, and has seen the likes of current Wallaby and Waratah players undertaking a similar journey, including David Dennis and Tatafu Polata Nau.

ARU Community Operations Michael Doyle commented, “These trials are an important stepping stone for players, and doubles as a chance to provide greater access in the western regions.”

Mr Doyle continued, “Our development team continues to conduct Sevens and Fifteens to over 1000 schools in the metropolitan area. The standard is outstanding, and we can now channel this talent into the CHS days.”

All players at Government High Schools aged U15 and U16 interested in being considered for selection in the CHS U16 Rugby Union team are encouraged to attend one of the Discovery Days as the first step in the trial process to gain selection. Each Discovery Day will include coaching from ARU and NSW CHS coaches as well as education material on the Government’s Illicit Drugs in Sport Education program, which is heavily supported by the ARU.

Registration: 9.00am - 9:30am
Activities: 9.30am - 2.30pm
Venue: Mount Druitt Town Centre Reserve, at rear of the Mount Druitt TAFE College
