Junior Gold Program and National Gold Squad players in Canberra were treated to some expert advice from leading Brumbies players on the eve of their big Super Rugby clash with the Waratahs.

These talented young players aged 15 to 17 years worked on position-specific skills and game understanding at their Griffith training base. Junior Gold Program coaches were also in attendance to pick up valuable tips from some of Australia’s best players.

“The opportunity for some of Canberra’s brightest young prospects to be coached and mentored by current Brumbies players will prove very valuable for their long term development” commented ARU High Performance Programs Coach Andy Clark. “Young players hold onto the memories of such contact and not just remember, but also apply every bit of advice passed on by the Brumbies players. The players and coaches are hugely impressed by the willingness of the Brumbies players to attend a session just days out from a very important Super rugby match. They went well over their scheduled time with the Junior Gold and National Gold Squad players – the young players couldn’t get enough!”

Brumbies players in attendance included:
Stephen Moore
Dan Palmer
Sam Carter
George Smith
Fotu Auelua
Ian Prior
Christian Lealiifano
Joe Tomane
Henry Speight

The Junior Gold Program and National Gold Squad are nationally coordinated talent development programs developed by the ARU and State Unions to service the long term development needs of players aged 15 to 18 years. The programs align closely with the various junior club and school representative pathways as well as graduate programs such as the ARU’s National Academy and U20s programs.

The Junior Gold Program operates out of 23 centres across Australia including over 1200 players and 150 coaches, whilst the National Gold Squad is based out of the five Super Rugby franchises and incorporates full time coaching staff for 97 players nationally.
