By Community Rugby, ARU Media Unit
Queensland Red have won consecutive Under 16 National Championship titles following a 34-31 win over New South Wales Schools in the Division One final at St. Ignatius College, Riverview today.
A high-scoring, hard-fought affair saw eight tries in total scored throughout the contest, with a single penalty goal to Queensland’s Mack Mason the only thing separating the sides.
The win secures the Rod Macqueen Shield for Queensland for another year, in what was one of a number of exciting contests on the final day of the tournament.
Earlier in the day, Sydney Juniors claimed the Division One Plate Final with a 35-10 win over NSW Country following a six-tries-to-one domination in the third vs fourth playoff.
In Division Two, the National Indigenous Under 16 side claimed the John Eales Shield as division winners, wrapping up their competition with a 64-5 win over South Australia.
