Rugby could not function without the hard work and commitment of its willing volunteers, who offer their skills, time and energy to help create a healthy and vibrant Rugby community.

“Volunteers are the backbone of the Rugby community and as such, deserve praise from all levels of the game,” ARU Community Rugby General Manager Ian Alker said.

“I'm always impressed by the passion, generosity and dedication of our volunteers.

“It's only fitting that we have initiatives like National Volunteer Week, where we can recognise and thank these selfless individuals who are integral to Community Rugby.”

National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding involvement of the many wonderful volunteers in all levels of Rugby.

With participation figures reaching all-time highs of more than 250,000 registered players in Australia, there has never been a stronger demand for volunteers to help run Community Rugby.

“From referees and coaches, to running the tuck shop and the presidents at the grass-roots level club, volunteers make our game great,” Alker said.

“As they say at Volunteering Australia, ‘Everyone counts.”
