Qantas Wallabies, Drew Mitchell and Wycliff Palu today visited Scone Grammar as part of the school’s prize for winning the third annual Qantas Walla Rugby Week.
Mitchell and Palu thanked the students and teachers at Scone Grammar for their support of the Qantas Wallabies and for participating in Qantas Walla Rugby Week.
The pair also helped run skills and drills sessions, addressed the school on the what it takes to be a Qantas Wallaby and explained the importance of eating healthy and exercising.
Since kicking off in 2009 the number of schools and students participating in Qantas Walla Rugby Week have grown every year with more than double the number of schools and triple the number of students taking part in 2011 compared to the programs inaugural year.
Held in the lead up to the Wallabies World Cup showdown against Ireland - Monday 12 to Friday 16 September - a total of 292 schools and 46,206 students took part in Qantas Walla Rugby Week 2011 more than double that of the 2010 week.
As part of the week long program schools were encouraged to adopt lesson plans available from the www.rugby.com.au website, run Rugby competitions and show their support for the Qantas Wallabies with the schools showing the most initiative throughout the week awarded prizes.
All 292 schools got into the spirit of Qantas Walla Rugby Week 2011, however Scone Grammar was awarded first place for their efforts that included a Gold and Green cake, Wear Gold Day, a Rugby carnival and more.
