The third annual Qantas Walla Rugby Week has broken all previous records with more schools and students taking part in the week long program than ever before.

Held in the lead up to the Wallabies World Cup showdown against Ireland - Monday 12 to Friday 16 September - a total of 292 schools and 46,206 students took part in Qantas Walla Rugby Week 2011.

The 46,206 students was more than double the 21,000 who took part in 2010, while 120 more schools signed up for the 2011 program compared to last year.

Since beginning in 2009 Qantas Walla Rugby Week has experienced significant growth with student numbers in 2011 triple the 15,000 that signed on in the inaugural year, while school numbers have also doubled.

As part of the week long schools were encouraged to adopt lesson plans available from the www.rugby.com.au/tryrugby website.

They were also encouraged to run Rugby competitions with prizes on offer to schools that show the most initiative in participating throughout the week.

All schools showed great initiative, however Scone Grammar was awarded first place for their efforts that included a Gold and Green cake, Wear Gold Day and more. You can see a selection of photos and video from Scone Grammar at www.rugby.com.au/tryrugby .

For their efforts Scone Grammar will receive a visit from two Qantas Wallabies, a signed Qantas Wallabies jersey, Panasonic Projector, Panasonic Camcorder, 8GB SD Card and a Rugby Fitness Pack.

A number of other schools also won prizes for their efforts including Mount Ousley Public School, St Brigid’s Primary, Blackburn Primary School and St Philomena’s Moree.

Details regarding Qantas Walla Rugby week in 2012 will be announced early next year with schools encouraged to register early.
