The National Under 16 Championship is set for a grand finale today with NSW Schools and Queensland Red set to play off in the decider for the Rod Macqueen Shield later this morning at St Ignatius College, Riverview.

NSW Schools ensured it wouldn’t be an all Queensland final after they defeated Queensland White in their Pool A match yesterday 15-5 to claim top spot in their pool and the right to challenge for the 2011 U16 Division One title.

Queensland Red had an easier run yesterday on their way to the decider, running over the top of last year’s Champions, Sydney Juniors, crossing seven times to record a 41-14 win to finish top of Pool B.

The NSW Schools and Queensland Red final will kick-off at 11:40am today and will conclude the 2011 National U16 Championships.

Queensland White finished second in their pool and third overall after winning two of their three matches and securing bonus points in each of their two wins, while last year’s Champions Sydney Juniors could only manage one bonus point in their two wins to finish second in their pool and fourth overall.

Victoria and NSW Country will play off for the Nick Farr Jones Shield after both teams finished third in their pools on five and six points respectively, the Division one Plate final will kick-off at 11:20am today.

In Division two only points difference separates the National Indigenous team and South Australia at the top of the table with both sides claiming bonus points in their two games so far.

The National Indigenous team continued their strong showing yesterday running in nine tries against Northern Territory to run away resounding winners 52-0.

South Australia crossed eight times in their 50-13 victory over Tasmania to set up a thrilling finish to the Division two title – The John Eales Shield.

The battle for the John Eales Shield will get underway at 10:00am this morning when the National Indigenous and South Australia take to the field to determine who will finish atop the Division two table and in turn take home the title.
