The Australian Rugby Union uses the major events each year to showcase our successes. Following on from the sucessfull Rugby World Cup roadshow with 'Bill' the William Web Ellis Cup in 1999, the ARU Community Rugby department looked at an opportunity to take the prestigious Bledisloe Cup on a community roadshow in the lead up to the annual Australian Bledisloe Cup match. This has subsequently provided a fantastic opportunity to spread the word about the game using an icon of international Rugby.
Consequently the inaugural BCR was run in 2006 from Bundaberg to Brisbane, and it has proved very successful in subsequent years, becoming an annual fixture on the community rugby calendar.
Additionally in a Rugby World Cup year (4 year cycle) we take ‘Bill’, our very own William Webb Ellis Cup that was presented to Australian Rugby following its second win in 1999, out to meet the community.
Format
The road show takes the cup/trophy (sometimes more than one) on a ‘journey’ to various locations, stopping at various schools, junior and possibly senior rugby clubs. The stops include conducting interactive history talks on rugby and the particular cup/trophy, sampling clinics, rugby skills & drills/activities, come and try sessions and BBQs at rugby clubs, junior finals and schools. There are plenty of giveaways, prizes for winning the cup quiz questions and of course those ‘wait until my friends see this photo’ opportunities.
2011 Roadshows
Details of the 2011 Roadshows are found by clicking below. Check out the locations and come along and get up close to the silverware - you won't be let down when you see the trophies we can guarantee that!
Additionally we are running a ‘Have you seen Bill?’ promotion on our ONE TEAM roadshow. This gives you, the fans and general public, to send in your photos with Bill, as it tours schools and clubs around the Country.
At the conclusion of the roadshow we will choose one image as the best photo. This person/school/club will receive a signed (by both captains) actual match ball from this year’s Bledisloe Cup in Brisbane. Check out the full details on the ONE TEAM roadshow page below.
