What are we doing and what do we bring?

What are we doing?

Whilst there are two different camps - TryRugby Kids Rugby Camp and Pathway to Gold High Performance Camp - both are structured following the credo REAL.

R is for Rugby, E is for Enjoyable, A is for Active and L is for Learning.

Both camp programs will include activities that are ENJOYABLE, ACTIVE, LEARNING experiences.

“No one has a mortgage on good ideas which is why these camps, which concentrate a huge amount of rugby knowledge in one place, are so beneficial. I can guarantee that, from a learning perspective, no one who attends will walk away empty handed.”
Qantas Wallabies coach Robbie Deans

On day 1 of each camp, registration will commence at 8:30am followed by a welcome and introduction for all participants.
Participants will use a variety of Riverview’s facilities which may include indoor venues such as the sports hall and swimming pool. If your child is unable to swim please notify staff at registration. We will be grouping the participants into age groups for the purposes of running the activities, to ensure appropriate syllabus (camp program) and safety considerations. Where possible we will endeavour to keep friends together.

TryRugby Kids Rugby Camp
Program: The focus of the two days is improving each player’s individual skills to participate in rugby and prepare players of all abilities for the current rugby season. Each day will be split into sessions of 30 minutes for 6-7 year olds and 45 minutes for 8-12 year olds. At the forefront of each presenters mind will be having FUN with an emphasis on playing a variety different games, including the appropriate Kids Pathway game for each age group. We want participants to go away with a smile on their face, a rugby ball under the arm looking forward to the next game.

The age specific Kids Rugby camp programs are; 6-7yrs, 8-9yrs and 10-12yrs.

Pathway to Gold High Performance Camp
Program: The Pathway to Gold High Performance camp aims to provide quality learning camp experience for players that aspire to be the best player they can be. The camp will challenge and prepare players of higher ability for the current rugby season. Each day will be split into sessions of 30 minutes with the four age bands 11s, 12s, 13s and 14s rotating between different game, skill, athletic development, testing and recovery activities. Additionally all players will receive a Pathway to Gold player manual providing information on how to maximise performance away from the playing field.
Day 1 starts with cross field seven’s games followed by general principles of attack and defence. After lunch all players undertake an athletic development session including conditioning games, speed training, body weight power circuit and a flexibility session. Each day will conclude with a recovery session using the pool, hot/cold showers and dry recovery. Day 2 will commence with individual physical testing. All players will be required to undertake these three tests as part of their physical assessment. Testing results will be explained in the final session of the camp. Additionally day 2 will include a positional group specific skill session and conclude with cross field seven’s.
