Sevens and Tens Rugby

 Sevens Rugby

The marquee event for the Indigenous 7s rugby is the Ella 7s. Named after the famous Ella Brothers, Aboriginal Wallaby’s players who represented Australia during the 80’s, this tournament is getting bigger and better each year. In 2012, the Ella 7s expandedto include Cairns, Brisbane and Coffs Harbour, with thoughts for a Southern NSW Tournament in 2013. Hosting between 16 (Cairns) and 32 teams (Coffs Harbour), with staff and spectators we anticipate up to 2000 people will attend.
The LMRDT help also have teams participating in international rugby competitions such as the Bangkok 7’s, Kiama 7's, Manilla or Hong Kong 10’s. These trips provide our players rewarding experience allowing them to discover new countries and culture through their passion for rugby.
Proving to be a great launch pad for our next generation Rugby 7’s layers, the LMRDT participated in and won the 2012 Investec Australian Schoolboy Rugby Sevens.
Women 7’s
The Lloydies family don’t forget the woman. In 2012 LMRDT have spread our wings to include a focus on Women’s Rugby. Our inaugural team Indigenous team contested the ARU Women’s Championships after a successful training camp held at the NCIE in Redfern.
