The Eora Warriors U10’s
The Eora Warriors are our Inner Sydney Juniors Club who participates in the Sydney Juniors competition at Nagle Park Maroubra every Saturday from March to August. The team is all inclusive inviting kids from all backgrounds and cultures to come together to support one another for the love of the game. We have been very successful, never being beaten with our only loses recorded being due to not having enough players on the field (we still always score the most points).
Looking to include other age groups to reach even more kids. Please contact Mel Howie @ 0414 256 600 or mel.howie@rugby.com.au if you are interested in joining. We provide the kids with uniforms, transport and complimentary fees.
U16’s Santos National Indigenous Championships
The sponsorships provided by Santos Limited, the LMRDT Inc and the Australian Rugby Union have been able to establish the Santos National Indigenous U16 Championships, which is the final selection process for the National Indigenous U16 team to contest the ARU National U16 Championships. For the past few years the Championships have been held at Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast in QLD and have attracted kids from all around Australia, with 6 kids this year coming from WA.
This year, the National Indigenous Team the team selected from these Championships went on to successfully defend their ARU Schoolboys title, scoring over 200 points in 3 games and having only 11 points scored against them. Since the start of the competition in 2001, the LMDRT’s team had lost only 3 times.
U18’s Australian Schools Division 2 U18s Championship
Since April 2011,teams from across Australia take part each year in the National Indigenous U18's Rugby Tournament. This tournament was a rugby development and cultural camp for U18's, and also gave the Lloyd McDermott Program an opportunity to select a National Indigenous Schoolboys team.
To be eligible for the 2012 tournament, players must be born 1994/1995, attending full time school and must be participating in our No School No Play program.
From this camp we select a team to contest the U18 Australian Schools Rugby Football Union Division 2 Championships. Since first entering in 2002 the LMRDT Inc has won twice (2010 and 2012).
Indigenous Rugby Programs
These programs are a joint initiative of the Australian Sports Commission Indigenous Sports Program, the ARU, and four of our Member Unions (QRU, NSWRU, NTRU, Brumbies).
Indigenous Rugby Programs are for school students in targeted communities and schools around regional Australia. To participate, players must attend school and have the support of their school community.
The Indigenous Rugby Program creates a pathway for young talented Indigenous players. Players within the program can be selected for regional U16's Championships. In turn, teams are selected from these regional championships to compete in the National U16 Indigenous Championship held in Sydney in August 2012.
Players and schools should contact their local State Union for more details.
