Led by Qantas Wallaby Coach Robbie Deans, fellow coaching staff Andrew Blades, Nick Scrivener, Tony McGahan have been visiting regional areas of NSW holding a series of coaching workshops. The boys have been exploring the countryside with sessions at Ballina, the Central Coast, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Tamworth and Orange, up skilling regional coaches in the latest techniques and drills direct from the Wallabies.

“The reception from the coaches has been fantastic; we have had great numbers and been extremely well received” commented Forwards Coach Andrew Blades who visited the Central Coast and Mid North Coast.
The overall aim of the coaching workshops has been to expose regional coaches to a higher level of expertise outside the coaching courses offered in regional areas and support the work of ARU Development staff. Another important objective of the series has been to recognise the Club coaches-volunteers for their efforts and reinforce to them that they are an important part of the rugby community.
Said Deans, “Every time I visit regional areas of Australia I am constantly reminded of the enthusiasm and passion that the rugby community has for the game. Hopefully we are up skilling the coaches but more importantly we are saying thank you for their efforts with their teams and clubs”.
For coaches interested in furthering their knowledge and skills, there is a fantastic opportunity to attend the National Coaching Conference, providing coaching development and education from Pathway age groups through to Youth, Colts, Senior and High Performance levels. Being held in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney preceding each British & Irish Lions Test, the Conference plays host to a mix of Qantas Wallabies, Super Rugby and National Academy Coaches, coaching consultants and sport specialists. A highlight of the conference will be the opportunity to interact with Classic Wallabies and Lions players in a Q-and-A style panel session.
