Over 300 high school students from across the Hunter will be taking part in the Hunter Secondary School Sevens on Tuesday 9 April at Waratah Park in Newcastle.
The event will provide access for Secondary boys and girls to Rugby Sevens, as a part of a series of qualifying Regional tournaments, which ultimately lead to successful teams from the Newcastle region playing off for a place in the State Championships.
Finalists in the U18 Boys and Girls divisions will represent the Hunter in a Regional NSW Tournament played as a curtain raiser to the British and Irish Lions game against the Combined Country side in Newcastle on 11 June.
The Tournaments also provide regional talent scouts the opportunity to view potential players for Representative Sevens squads that are selected later in the year.
Girls in the U18 age group have the potential to be selected in the NSW Girls U18s at the National Schoolgirls Championships to be held in October.
U18s Boys have the chance to be invited into the Junior Gold Program, as part of the ARU High Performance Unit, with a National U18s Sevens training squad selected later in the year.
For more information on the Hunter Secondary School Sevens, please contact Matt Johnston, ARU Development Manager - Newcastle and Hunter on or 0450 165 769.
