While his most recent Rugby has been in the 15s format with Japanese Top League side Shokki and prior to that, with the Western Force, James Stannard has a wealth of Sevens experience.
The 31-year-old was a member of the Australian side that won a Silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India, and captained the side that won the London Sevens at Twickenham in the same year.
After leaving Australian shores to take up a contract in Japan in 2012, Stannard returned to his homeland and quickly expressed interest in returning to the fast-paced Sevens environment.
In March 2013 he was named in the squad for tournaments in Hong Kong and Tokyo and then went on to play in Glasgow and London.
He also played in the Gold Coast, Dubai and South Africa meetings in 2013/14 HSBC Sevens World Series, before returning to the squad for the Twickenham leg - helping the side reach the Cup Final.
