Qantas Women’s Sevens coach Chris Lane has resigned from his position after two years in the role.
Lane made the decision following his side’s fifth-place finish at Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 in Moscow and will now look to pursue other interests in Queensland.
While in the role of head coach of the women’s Sevens program for two years, Lane has been with the Australian Rugby Union since 2008 when he was first appointed as ARU’s Elite Player Development Coach in Queensland.
Lane was named Australia’s first-ever fulltime women’s Sevens coach in late 2011 and saw the side through its first IRB Women’s Sevens Challenge Cup and IRB Women’s Sevens World Series.
ARU will begin the search for a replacement coach in the coming weeks, as they prepare for the upcoming IRB Women’s Sevens World Series and the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.
Players from the Qantas Australian Women's Sevens program visited the Sydney Children's Hospital in Randwick on Thursday to bring some needed festive cheer to sick children.
