Australian Men’s Sevens player Lewis Holland has received a three-match sanction for a dangerous lifting tackle at Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 in Moscow.

Holland was cited for an incident in Australia’s opening pool match against Spain overnight, for a tackle contrary to law 10.4(j).

Holland appeared before independent Judicial Officer, Jeremy Summers (England) after being cited by Citing Commissioner Steve Scott (UAE).

The Judicial Officer, having heard all the evidence, determined that the citing be upheld. He determined that the offence should merit the low-end entry point for the sanction which is four weeks/matches.

Having also considered the mitigating factors, including a clean disciplinary record, and determined no aggravating factors, the Judicial Officer reduced the sanction by one (week) match.

Holland is therefore suspended for Australia's two pool matches against Tunisia and France on Saturday and the first match of the knockout phase on Sunday.

The Australian Men’s Sevens opened their World Cup campaign with a 21-0 win over Spain. They continue pool play tonight, with Tunisia at 5:56pm (AEST) and France at 12:10am (AEST) on Sunday 30 June.

All matches will be streamed live at www.irb.com. The final day of the tournament will be streamed live on www.irb.com and broadcast live on Fox Sports 3HD.
