With just five months to go until Gold Coast Sevens returns to one of Australia’s most vibrant cities, Australian Rugby Union today launched a new logo and revealed ticket prices for the 2013 event.

Following two successful years in 2011 and 2012 the third edition of Gold Coast Sevens is set to be even bigger when it returns to Skilled Park on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October.

ARU CEO Bill Pulver, said the new logo, launched today as a sand sculpture on Surfers Paradise Beach, was an exciting step in what was shaping as a fantastic event in October.

“For the last two years Gold Coast Sevens has grown in popularity and awareness,” Mr Pulver said.

“Today, using the Gold Coast’s iconic Surfers Paradise Beach, we are launching a refreshing new logo, one which will be seen across Australia and overseas over the coming months as we begin the countdown to the third annual Gold Coast Sevens event.

“Over the past two years Skilled Park on the Gold Coast has proved to be a fantastic venue for the exciting Rugby Sevens tournament and this year will be no different.”

With the third instalment of the tournament set to increase in numbers again, ARU today announced a special Early Bird offer for fans that purchase tickets during the Rugby Community pre-sale or on day one of General Public on-sale.

“We have decided to reward those who purchase their tickets early by providing an exclusive 20% discount through the Early Bird offer,” Mr Pulver said.

Tickets to the 2013 Gold Coast Sevens will go on sale through Ticketek at 9:00am local time on Monday 9 September with a family of four  able to purchase a Family Pass from just $70.Concession tickets will start from $24 and Adult tickets from $35.

“The Early Bird prices will reward fans for buying early, especially those returning for their second or third year, while our overall pricing structure represents good value for such an exciting sport, an Olympic sport, which is increasing in popularity around the world,” Mr Pulver said.

“Our aim in 2013 is to again increase our crowds over the two days and continue to grow the awareness and excitement of Rugby Sevens and the festival atmosphere it creates.”

Minister for Tourism, Major Events, Small Business and the Commonwealth Games, Jann Stuckey said the countdown to Gold Coast Sevens 2013 had well and truly begun.

“The Gold Coast has provided a fantastic backdrop for this exciting event for the past two years and in 2013 we again look forward to showcasing our many attributes to the world,” Ms Stuckey said.

“Our state is renowned for hosting world-class sporting events and the State Government understands how important tournaments like this are in delivering economic and social benefits to the community.

“I encourage fans from across the country and the world to start planning their trips, so that they can experience everything this great city and state have to offer.”

Gold Coast Sevens will be the first major tournament for teams following the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Russia in June.
