Fans are being encouraged to get in early and secure their tickets to Gold Coast Sevens - Fever Pitch when they go on sale at 9am tomorrow through Ticketek.

Skilled Park on the Gold Coast is set to light up in mid-October when the two-day international tournament returns to one of Australia’s most vibrant cities.

After making its debut on a Friday and Saturday in November last year Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch will be held on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October in 2012 with a bumper crowd set to enjoy two exciting days of action.

This world-class sporting event - broadcast around the globe - sees 16 national teams descend on Skilled Park for a total of 45 matches of super-fast running Rugby and off-field entertainment offerings that deliver a unique atmosphere unlike anything else in Australian sport.

Already famous for fancy dress, music and dancing, Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch is an event not to be missed.

Qantas Men’s Sevens captain, Ed Jenkins, said the squad was already starting to get excited about returning to the Gold Coast in October.

“We’ve really only just begun our pre-season but already there’s an exciting buzz going around about getting back up to the Gold Coast and putting on a show for our home fans,” Jenkins said.

“Skilled Park is a great stadium and the Gold Coast is a fantastic city, combined they make the perfect recipe for a fantastic opening tournament.

“Last year we came close but just missed out on the top prize, this year hopefully we’ll be able to deliver our fans a tournament win in our first outing for the year.

“It would be great to see the stands full of colour and costumes so I encourage fans across Australia to get their tickets tomorrow when they go on sale and start planning their fancy dress.”

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Jann Stuckey, said the tournament made a great contribution to Queensland’s tourism industry drawing thousands of Rugby fans to the Gold Coast.

“The inaugural Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch attracted more than 25,000 people in 2011, injecting millions into the local economy,” said Ms Stuckey.

“Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch will be broadcast to a potential audience of 750 million across 140 countries; shining an international spotlight on the region as a great event destination.

“It is an exciting time on the Gold Coast as we look toward the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games – with events like the Gold Coast Sevens – Fever Pitch highlighting Queensland’s ability to host high calibre international events.”

“I encourage Queenslanders to get behind the event and enjoy what is another great experience on offer on Gold Coast.”

As a reward to those who came last year and an incentive for more people to come along and enjoy the excitement of Rugby Sevens this year tickets to this world class international event have been frozen at last year’s prices.
