Queensland teams will be looking for back-to-back victories when they compete at the National Sevens Championships at Bond University this weekend.
2013 National Youth Girls’ Sevens Championships
The National Youth Girls’ Sevens Championships will be played on Saturday as Queensland Red looks to secure back-to-back titles after defeating NSW Blue to win the inaugural competition last year.
State teams have been selected from a series of training camps and selection days, with the tournament featuring three pools of three teams including QLD Red, NSW White, SA, NSW Blue, ACT, Vic, Qld White, WA and NT.
On Saturday, the top ranked teams from each pool will progress to Cup and Plate semi-finals with the winners of the Cup play-offs competing at the final which will be held at Skilled Park during the main interval of the Gold Coast Sevens.
2013 National Schoolboys Sevens Championships
In its fourth year, the tournament sees entries from 12 schools across Australia, with Queensland playing its state finals on Friday to decide its top three entries.
On Sunday, the Queensland teams join three from NSW, two from ACT and one from NT, SA, VIC and WA in four pools, where each will compete in a round robin competition with each team playing twice.
At the conclusion of the pool rounds, teams are ranked and progress to Cup, Plate and Bowl semi-final knockout rounds. The Cup teams are vying for the honour to compete in the Cup final at Skilled Park during the main interval of the Gold Coast Sevens later that afternoon.
