Decision Making at Scrum

Throughout 2013, Steve Walsh has been co-ordinating sessions with the ARU's National Panel of referees focussing on decision making at scrum, primarily around what is happening after the ‘set’ call.

Who is causing a collapse? What should the referee look for and in what order?

Key principles from these sessions have been turned into a PowerPoint presentation with 17 video examples of loose-head hinging, tight-head disappearing, tight-head pulling down on the arm, scrum dominance, and illegal wheeling.

Following this is 11 video clips that allow you to make your own decision before seeing the recommended sanction or decision (sometimes, it’s just a reset!)

This presentation has been distributed to all States for use in education sessions. For a copy of the content, please email your State Referee Education contact.
