Player Profile

Selena Tranter
Name Selena Tranter
Club QLD
Position Flanker
Nickname Sel... for obvious reasons... I was nicknamed "Freak" at one stage but I don't think that was for complementary reasons...
Height 169cm
Weight 70kg
Date of Birth 18/04/1975
How did you first get into Rugby? I used to date the best mate of my first coach at Souths Rugby Club in Brisbane in 1994 when they needed extra players...
Representative honours 24 International Caps. Debut V New Zealand, 1994
Best moments Beating NSW at the National Titles in Darwin in 1998 in the last minute of the game... beating New Zealand in the last minute of the game in Samoa for the IRB 7's World Cup Qualifiers this year...
Other interests/talents I love rowing surfboats in summer
Family My parents still live on the cattle property I grew up on in Biggenden, QLD. I have 3 older brothers and an older sister who have all played rugby at some stage.
Family links with Rugby My sister and I both attended Downlands College in Toowoomba which produce many Wallabies such as Brett Robinson, Tim Horan, and Garrick Morgan
Best Rugby player of all time I don't think you could pick a "best rugby player of all time"... I most admire Tim Horan for his comeback from a major knee reconstruction to play a key role in the World Cup... I greatly admire John Eels for being not only a great player in his day but also for his passion and the way he conducts himself as an ambassador of our game both then and continues to do now... I believe George Smith has probably had the most influence as a player on the modern game, in that his skills and ability to stay on his feet and play the ball has seen other teams rethink their approach to the game over recent years...
Most admired person My Mum
The most experienced Wallaroo, Selena played in the first Wallaroo Test Match in 1994. After taking 2007 off, Selena returned to make both the Wallaroo and Australian Womens Seven's Team.
