PHIL WAUGH became the 74th player to captain the Wallabies in 2006, and was in charge twice more in 2007 against Wales and Fiji.  After a knee injury early in the 2007 Super 14 put him out for most of the domestic season, Waugh returned to play in all but one Test for the Wallabies including four of the five matches at 2007 Rugby World Cup in France.

Captained the Australian Schoolboys out of the Shore School in Sydney.

-1999 Represented both the Australian Under 19s and Under 21s, captaining the Australian Under 21s in 1999.

-2001  Made his Test debut as a replacement against England on the Spring Tour and then made his run on debut against France in Marseille a year later.  At provincial level he was named the Rookie of the Year in 2000 and then the Player of the Year in 2001 when he also captained Australia A against the British and Irish Lions.

Missed the entire Test season after sustaining an ankle injury during the Super 12.

Played in 13 of the 14 Wallaby Tests, including a start in the World Cup Final against England and was awarded the John Eales Medal for the Wallabies Best and Fairest Player.

Started in 11 of the 12 Tests for the Wallabies linking up with George Smith and David Lyons in the backrow.

-2006  Rotated between the starting fifteen and the reserves bench for the Wallabies, playing his 50th Test and captaining Australia against Wales on the 2006 Spring Tour.

A knee injury in Week 3 against the Cheetahs limited the new Waratahs skipper to just four appearances for the season.  Captained Wallabies against Wales and Fiji, attended his second Rugby World Cup in France playing in four of the five matches.
