SEKOPE KEPU joined the Waratahs in December last year, making his Investec Super 14 debut early in the season against the Highlanders. A former No 8, the Sydney-born Kepu attended the same school as rugby legend Jonah Lomu, South Auckland’s Wesley College, where he was the captain of the first XV. Between 2005 and 2007, Kepu was a member of the Chiefs wider training group of players. He also appeared for the Counties Manukau province in the Air New Zealand Cup (formerly NPC) for three straight seasons between 2005 and 2007 winning 20 caps, before returning to Sydney when he was contracted by the Waratahs.
Kepu performed strongly for Australia A in this year’s Pacific Nations Cup and also trained on occasion with the Wallabies during the Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series prior to earning his selection for the Spring tour. Selection for Australia completes a massive year for Kepu, who became a father for the first time two months ago with the birth of his daughter Finau Faith Rose.
