It is a testament to the enormity of the contribution made by JAMESHORWILL in his first full season as a Wallaby that, as well as being one of just four players to start in every Test during the domestic season, he also finished the year as Australia’s equal top try-scorer with four (alongside centre Ryan Cross). And this despite being forced to miss the five Tests on the Spring Tour due to the requirement of an operation to mend a ligament in his foot. Those statistics accurately reflect the energy that the big-hearted Queenslander added to the Wallaby cause, during a year which also saw him captain his state for the first time – and a few weeks before his 23rd birthday.
Horwill appeared in every match during his maiden Super rugby season with the Reds in 2006 before featuring as a midweek Wallaby on the spring tour of Europe at the end of that year. Prior to this year, where he was forced to start late due to the rehabilitation required from his injury, he had played in every Queensland game possible since his debut – having strung together 39 in succession.
2004 Represented Queensland Under 19s
2005 Member of the Australian Under 21s at the iRB World Championships in Argentina as well as representing Queensland A.
2006 Wasn’t included in the initial Reds squad for the Super 14 but was called on as a surprise selection for the opening match against the NSW Waratahs and went on to play in every match. He was rewarded with a second tour with the Australian Under 21s before starting at lock in both Australia A fixtures against Fiji. He then iced the cake with selection in the 37-man Wallabies Spring Tour squad where he started in all three mid-week games.
2007 Started every match for the Reds. Made his Wallabies Test debut against Fiji in Perth.
2008 Led Queensland with great gusto when called on to take the captaincy reins late in the Investec Super 14. Scored his first try 21 minutes into the Test season opener against Ireland in Melbourne, and went on to add three more while starting in every domestic Test. Carried a torn ligament in his foot through the back end of the Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series, which forced him to miss the Spring Tour in order to have an operation to get that repaired.
