PHIL WAUGH shared the Wallabies captaincy duties with Stirling Mortlock during the 2007 winter series and once again provided world class service as a starting openside flanker or impact player from the reserves bench. A key part of the Wallabies leadership team in his second Rugby World Cup campaign.
1997: Captained the Australian Schoolboys out of the Shore School in Sydney.
1998-1999: Represented both the Australian Under 19s and Under 21s, captaining the Australian Under 21s in 1999.
2000-2001: Made his Test debut as a replacement against England on the Spring Tour and then made his run on debut against France in Marseille a year later. At provincial level he was named the Rookie of the Year in 2000 and then the Player of the Year in 2001 when he also captained Australia A against the British and Irish Lions.
2002: Missed the entire Test season after sustaining an ankle injury during the Super 12.
2003: Played in 13 of the 14 Wallaby Tests, including a start in the World Cup Final against England and was awarded the John Eales Medal for the Wallabies Best and Fairest Player.
2004: Started in 11 of the 12 Tests for the Wallabies linking up with George Smith and David Lyons in the backrow.
2005-2006: Rotated between the starting fifteen and the reserves bench for the Wallabies, playing his 50th Test and captaining Australia against Wales on the 2006 Spring Tour.
2007: A knee injury in Week 3 against the Cheetahs limited the new Waratahs skipper to just four appearances for the season. He was then named co-captain of the Wallabies, leading the team out against Wales and Fiji in playing all seven Tests during the winter.
